The following paper by Ms. Xinlei SHAO, a doctoral candidate in our laboratory, and her colleagues has been published in Aquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater
Ecosystems.
This research focuses on coral reef condition monitoring in collaboration with a Thai marine conservation program. This study created a dataset representing common coral reef conditions and associated stressors in the Indo-Pacific. Concurrently, it assessed existing classification algorithms and proposed a new multilabel method for automatically detecting coral reef conditions and extracting ecological information. The proposed method accurately classifies coral reef conditions and corresponding stressors based on universally recognized standards in coral reef conservation. This approach can contribute to the development of coral image archives, guide conservation activities, and serve as a reference for reef managers and conservationists in decision-making. Congratulations, Ms. Shao!
