Jun SASAKI Laboratory, established in April, 2013, as a part of Socio-Cultural Environmental Studies, Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, The University of Tokyo, conducts research on inland, estuarine and coastal water processes, disaster prevention and mitigation in coastal regions, and sustainable use and management of coastal zone.

Our laboratory was originally founded in April, 1999, transferred from Department of Civil Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo, when Division of Environmental Studies, Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, the University of Tokyo, was founded through comprehensive cooperation of all existing departments of the University of Tokyo. Dr. Masahiko Isobe, currently Vice-President at Kochi University of Technology, was the first professor of our laboratory. Dr. Jun Sasaki, former professor at Yokohama National University, was appointed as the second professor succeeding to Dr. Masahiko Isobe.

Jun SASAKI laboratory welcomes foreign students and researchers, especially from developing countries, having an intention to contribute to environmental restoration, disaster prevention and mitigation as well as sustainable development of their mother country and the world. All the classes and seminars for foreign students are offered in English. Scholarships are also available for foreign students from developing countries. Please refer to admission information.
