2023.12.14 Research article published in Journal of Marine Science and Engineering
The following paper by Mr. Wataru Nakamura, a doctoral student in our laboratory, and his colleagues has been published in Journal of Marine Science and Engineering.
This research is related to blue carbon, defined as carbon sequestered and stored by marine ecosystems, which has been the focus of much attention recently. Based on field studies in fringe mangroves (mangroves that develop along the coast rather than in estuaries) on Ishigaki Island and Iriomote Island in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, the paper suggests that tidal flats adjacent to fringe mangrove forests may mitigate the rise in pCO2 and promote offshore export of dissolved carbon.
Congratulations, Mr. Nakamura!
